Fear

At an early age I concluded that the average person, if not all humans, need fear in their life. I think I was about 15 or 16 years old and as a result of my ponderings over story telling and fairy tales in particular, I figured we need to experience danger and the belief of being able to overcome it. In times there is no danger, we convince ourselves there to be danger anyway, by spinning reality.

This hypothesis is still standing strong after about 35 years.
