I’d really like to see calculations on and effects from humans only eating vegetables… what happens to agriculture, (de)forestation, ecosystems etcetera. Being a vegetarian seems very noble, but human efficiency on living from vegetables alone is not very high. Biologically speaking we depend on bacteria to survive on vegetables. As omnivores we have ‘survived’ because of our dualistic food dependency. Besides that we will always depend on an intermediate for deriving nourishment from our food. Whether it be be animals or bacteria.
We are part of a system, an ecology, where a balance serves us in our development. The choice of living inclusive as an omnivore seems the logical choice for me. Treating our future food with respect, to me, is part of keeping that ecological balance.
