Like everything, being an intellectual or scientist is institutionalised. Scientific developments should stay within societal boundaries (i.e. worth investment defined by expected yield), intellectual property is defined by its economic value and any expression of insights by people representing these should entertain their public.

Most real scientists/intellectuals lead a double life. One representing their actual mindset and the other being an excuse towards society to get funded.
