We need a different system from the simple referendum. People need to be well informed. The problem to vote on should be very well defined. We need a direct voting system for Europe. At the moment, the schism is mainly that corporate lobby has a direct effect on European decision making, where votes by citizens in their own country seem to be overturned by a European government. The real problem is civilians who like to see their voice represented in decision making. No country will like a Europe where they’ll lose their own identity, unless individuals see themselves represented.

Although identity is mainly an illusion, in a functional EU we have to be able to trace our own voice and vote. It shouldn’t be too difficult to make an elektronic voting system supporting just that. Populism will also be less effective if people’s voices will be heard and people are well educated on political issues.
