There we are… Homo fabulans. As you all know, because you are human, we can be afraid. Fright is one of the reasons we do things. It may keep us alive… It makes us feel alive. As a story telling species, we can make our environment a frightening place, just to get something done. In the aftermath, we tell ourselves to be heroes if we survive.

Besides this little system of our being, there is the need to belong to a greater ‘truth’. This also can be fabulated. Even if we are able to prove its existence to some extent. During history, some of these ‘truths’ have survived, just because they were convenient. At times they were adapted to remain convenient. All kinds of high functioning entities, magical creatures and other omnipotent creatures have been conjured up, to adhere to as human societies developed. This all knowing referent has always been a nice conduit to keep these societies in an orderly fashion. In case of encountering a society which is different, it could give structure for keeping everything together. The society surviving by keeping its identity.

The identity of a society or community will be strongest when there is a common ground for everyone to keep it that way. However… As humans we have developed a general ‘truth’, based on what we know about the environment we live in. This truth is versatile enough to encapsulate all kinds of identities for societies, as long as these singular identities agree to acknowledge the others to be just as valuable. Besides that, this ‘general truth’ should not restrict freedom too much for the singular identities to remain possible. 

However, our current economy system is restricting this common ground being general. This economy system also is a fabulation. It developed within our concept of ‘general truth’, but it is not a part of it. It is a new kind of ‘truth’. It shapes our society and makes it less general. Common grounds get lost. Society gets divided. It constricts freedom and makes society more complex. People reach out to other kinds of ‘truths’ to avoid this constriction and complexity. There is no story to it for everyone to grasp. It frightens us, but there is no common story to back up this fear. The only message that reaches us, is to consume our way through this story.

Stories to live by are not necessarily based on what we know about the environment we live in, or an all knowing referent. It may be based on fear itself. Fear can also be some kind of general truth. We all know that fear makes us feel alive… In the end keeps us alive. Or doesn’t it? Well… As long as we keep those stories simple and avoid conflict, it generally does. So… If we don’t understand the identity of our society anymore, we can give it an identity we all understand. The story of fear and its general solution. Getting rid of it by force.

So… This simple story is:

• Keep things as much as you used to know
• Do not accept anything threatening
• You know who to trust… They are like you
• Others are not allowed
• Anyone who doesn’t agree are others
• Everything above is a solution to any problem in society
• (If not… Retaliate)

If everyone does so, you belong to a greater truth…

Well… This is a truth which has had its rebirth many times and never survives.
